Mathieu Cadault is the head of business affairs for the haute couture line, Pierre Cadault. He is also the nephew of the companies founder and designer, Pierre Cadault. Mathieu's protectiveness over his uncle's brand is evident from the start, though he is quickly taken with Emily Cooper's resilience and dedication to the brand.
Biography[]
Mathieu was born and raised in Paris, France until he was thirteen. He moved to London to live with his uncle, haute couture designer Pierre Cadault. Mathieu describes his childhood as unstable primarily due to his uncle's radical mood swings and creative whims. It took the boy a while to adjust to the surprises that each day brought, but he learned to appreciate them later in life. Mathieu attended business school in London and was hired during his years there at Pierre Cadault as the head of business affairs.
He quickly grew a reputation in the media as a playboy who always has a new model on his arm. His reputation as the heir-apparent to the Pierre Cadault dynasty allows him a higher standard of living that he applies to those around him.
Season 1[]
Mathieu's uncle, haute couture designer Pierre Cadault, agrees to loan the American actress Brooklyn Clark one of his designs for a Fourtier event party. While meeting Brooklyn he is introduced to Emily Cooper the Savoir marketing agent who is representing Pierre. He is skeptical over the agency deal as Pierre has a specific brand, but agrees to give Emily the night to prove that this is a good idea. By the end of the night, he is impressed by Emily's photograph of the donated dress, which makes Pierre Cadualt sexy again.
Mathieu is convinced once again by Emily to allow Pierre to donate a dress to the American Friends of the Louvre charity auction. When the auction goes terribly wrong following a publicity stunt by an American streetwear company, Grey Space, Mathieu is left to comfort his overly distraught Uncle. The fallout allows an opportunity for Emily and Mathieu to bond and they grow closer, becoming romantically involved. With Fashion Week nearing, Mathieu attempts to reason with Pierre who doesn't want to partake in the event. He accompanies Emily and Sylvie Grateau to a meeting with Pierre where he announces he wants to reclaim his fashion week showcase. Emily plans a PR stunt for Pierre to reclaim his location from Grey Space which impresses Mathieu. He asks her on a trip to Saint Tropez which she happily accepts.
Season 2[]
Mathieu and Emily prepare for their romantic weekend getaway in St. Tropez. They meet at the bus station where he helps Emily load her suitcase, which is a hopeful future collaboration with Pierre and a luggage company, onto the train. As he sorts everything out with the staff, Emily takes a phone call from Gabriel, where she accidentally admits to having feelings for him. When she turns, Mathieu is behind her having heard the entire conversation. He confronts her about being in love with another man, then refuses to go on the trip. He recommends calling her boyfriend to keep her company. Emily tries to explain thins but he leaves the train before she can stop him. He spends the night partying with models. He calls Emily after she posts a photo of Grégory Elliott Duprée with Pierre's suitcase, furious over the infraction. Grégory and Pierre are archnemesis and the stir on social media is throwing Pierre into a meltdown. Meanwhile, Mathieu becomes cordial with Savoir employee Julien, who takes over the Pierre account.
While on a birthday lunch, Emily and her friend Camille spot Mathieu at a popular cafe. Emily explains that she and Mathieu broke up because she learned to never mix work and dating, especially now that she's off the Pierre account. When Emily leaves, Camille confronts Mathieu over standing Emily up at St. Tropez, an accusation that he finds amusing. Especially since Emily was the one having an affair.
Personality[]
Mathieu is sharply intellectual and charming. He is protective of his uncle's company and tries his best to look out for the eccentric man. Business-wise, Mathieu acts on thought and consideration over emotion, never making an impulsive decision that he can't rationalize over first. In his personal life, Mathieu is quite spontaneous and chivalrous.

Mathieu first met Emily at the Pierre Cadault headquarters when she is searching for a dress for an American actress she is entertaining. He is amused by her work tendencies and agrees to allow her to represent Pierre through her marketing firm Savoir on a trial basis. He is pleased with her outcome of the evening when she photographs the dress in a new and sexy way. They began to bond over time and they eventually kissed twice. They head to St. Tropez for a romantic getaway that would begin their relationship, but things went awry when Mathieu overheard Emily's conversation wtih Gabriel. Upon realizing that Emily had been in a relationship with another man, he breaks things off and leaves her on the train. Their professional relationship also ends when Emily is removed from the Pierre account after she mistakenly posts a photo of Pierre's archnemesis with Pierre's full-faced luggage line.
