"You live to work. We work to live." ― Luc to Emily in Masculin Féminin
Luc is an employee at Savoir with mischievous antics. He, along with Julien, enjoyed making fun of Emily's American way of treating France. Though he showed sympathy for her and refused to mock her any longer, instead, befriending her.
Biography[]
Luc has been working at Savoir nearly as long, if not as long, as Sylvie Grateau. They went through the ranks together but Sylvie was promoted over Luc.
Season 1[]
Luc's work at Savoir is disrupted by the arrival of Emily Cooper, a transition consultant, and marketing executive from Gilbert Group, Chicago, there to give them the American point of view. Luc, like his other colleagues, doesn't respond well to Emily's arrival and he doesn't like her approach to their workflow. He refuses to go to lunch with her, even making up an absurd excuse so he doesn't have to attend. He notices her when they all go to lunch without her, and takes time to approach her the next day, to be honest with her about why they are distant. He explains that Americans and French people have different perspectives on life and work. He also thinks everyone is a little intimidated by her. Luc also doesn't agree with calling her la plouc and refuses to call her names any further. Emily is grateful for his moment of sincerity.
Luc's open-minded approach to Emily is rocked when he receives Gilbert Group's corporate commandments and rejects them all as they go against everything he loves. Including workplace romances. He draws a penis on his copy and leaves it on Emily's desk, with Julien ratting Luc out. Emily gets back at Luc by delivering a penis-shaped cake to his desk - complete with icing. He finds it amazing and they continue to have a workplace friendship. He even works with Julien to warn her about stepping on Sylvie's toes regarding Antoine Lambert, whom Sylvie is having an affair with.
When Emily finds herself in hot water with Sylvie following an incident with Pierre Cadault, Luc assures her that he and Julien will never abandon her. He tells her to keep coming into Savoir and proving herself, even though Sylvie fired her, as it's difficult for French people to be fired. He helps Emily stay involved in Savoir by transferring the Maison Lavaux account to Emily. This ultimately helps her and she is appreciative of his kindness. He continues to make sexual comments while working but they aren't as offensive to Emily who has grown used to his unique sense of humor.

Season 4[]
Luc continues his work at Agence Grateau, making strides in his work while still leaning on Julien for a lot of responsibilities. Things change in Luc's world when Julien leaves Agence Grateau for JVMA, making Luc take the lead on the Boucheron luncheon. He calls Julien in a panic, trying to keep their partnership. He makes a few blunders, but ultimately saves the boring luncheon with his own ingenuity, creating a scavenger hunt for a missing jewel. Sylvie and the executives confront him about the necklace not being on the budget. He plans to just let people get bored and never follow through with the campaign.
Personally, Luc continues his relationship with Marianne, though they have a rocky moment when she learns he outed her job as a Michelin star taster to Gabriel. He's heartbroken when she leave and leans on Julien and Emily for support. Marianne approaches Luc at the masquerade party and wants to be with him, just wanting more of a commitment. He invites her to move into his houseboat with him.
Personality[]
Luc is an interesting older man who enjoys fitting in at Savoir. Initially, he supports Julien and Sylvie's stance of disliking Emily and degrading her with remarks, and excluding her on outings. When the hazing turns verbal with everyone nicknaming her "La Plouc", Luc gives Emily some sage advice on how to handle the group. He supports her in that he doesn't want to call her names, but reminds her that she has to take responsibility for some of the reasons everyone is cold to her. Luc, along with Julien, were horrified at the commandments sent by Gilbert Group, especially the "no workplace romances" rule.
Another aspect of Luc's personality is his confidence regarding sexuality and sexual remarks. He often makes inappropriate remarks or jokes while in a meeting or conversing with Julien and Emily. He seems rather naive about the idea of keeping his jokes to himself during a professional setting. His embracing of sexuality gives him a rapport with Antoine Lambert.
Relationships[]
Emily Cooper[]
Luc and Julien often mock Emily, but they later worked together to help her survive the cultural differences that she endures at Savoir.
Sylvie Grateau[]
Luc and Sylvie have a long history as co-workers and they share a mutual respect for one another. He has worked with Sylvie the longest out of everyone at Savoir, though Julien once remarked that Sylvie stepped on Luc to get her job.
Julien[]
Luc and Julien often mock Emily, but later work together to help her survive the cultural differences that she discovers at Savoir.
