Biography[]
Genevieve is the American daughter of Laurent Grateau, a product of an affair he had with an American woman. Genevieve grew up in America and didn't know much about her father's life in France. She attended NYU where she graduated, though she had a long-time dream of moving to Paris and working in the city. Laurent's wife, Sylvie, didn't know about Genevieve until she was seventeen. Genevieve went on to intern at a start that was "rent-the-runway for bridal parties." She left the company to pursue her dream job in Paris.

She is a wealthy American who just graduated from NYU, but is in Paris hoping to land a job as an assistant for a fashion icon. Sylvie does her best to give her stepdaughter a warm welcome, though she makes Laurent aware of her frustrations when he announces Genevieve will be living with them until she can get settled. Hoping to move the process along, Sylvie calls Genevieve's prospective boss to put in a good word, only to have her insist that Sylvie take Genevieve instead. Left with few options and feeling the Christmas spirit after Genevieve's thoughtful gift, Sylvie offers her a job with Agence Grateau.
