"But I do understand what it means to be on the outside looking in. I have a perspective that you will never understand, because no, I'm not sophisticated or French, and I don't know how to look like you. That slouchy, sexy, je ne sais quoi thing. But I am the customer that wants it. And you're not because… you already got it and you don’t even know how you did it." ― Emily to Sylvie in Masculin Féminin

Personality[]

Emily has a warm, friendly, caring, perky, bubbly, and open personality, which her French coworkers find typically American and are annoyed by. She is enthusiastic about what she does and enjoys her job very much. She can come across as a bit clueless. She stands up for what she believes in, such as sexism and the exploitation of women. Emily is very sociable and makes friends very easily. However, she finds it difficult to make important decisions, often weighing her options until one of them inevitably falls through. She then realizes what she truly wants and pursues it fully.

She nearly lost her position with Madeline, only earning it back by refusing to leave. She inadvertently upset Antoine by inserting her newly gained knowledge of the business world onto him, and while it did end up working for her, she crossed a line by approaching him. She also doesn't give much concern to her co-workers feelings or the boundaries of professional conduct, as she usurps Julien and Luc's pitches even when she's not on the clients account. While she would never intentionally hurt their feelings and is eager to please a client so they can all win, she more so comes across as overindulgent and clueless of her friends feelings.
