Emily in Paris is a romantic comedy Netflix original series produced by MTV Studios and Lily Collins.[1] The series is created and written by Darren Star, who is also an executive producer along with Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, and Andrew Fleming.[1][3] It was originally set to air on the Paramount Network, but it was announced that the series was picked up by Netflix on July 13th, 2020.[1] Season 1 premiered on October 2, 2020 with 10 episodes.[1][3] It was announced that the show was renewed for a second season on Nov 11, 2020.[4] On January 10, 2021, the show was renewed for a third and fourth season.[5] To pair with the Season 4 premiere, Netflix released a mobile game based on the series, Netflix Stories: Emily in Paris.[6]

Plot[]

Gilbert Group is the Chicago-based company where Emily works, has bought Savior, a French marketing company located in Paris. Emily is transferred to Paris to take a social media marketing job that her boss can no longer take.

When she arrives to report for work at Savior's offices, she is met with hostility from her coworkers, especially by Sylvie, her new boss. They resent this new young brash American being forced on them by their new parent company. Also, they think it is ridiculous that Emily is working for a French company, but does not speak French.

As she begins her life in Paris, she experiences numerous incidents of culture clash because she fails to realize the many, many differences between French and American culture.

On September 5th, 2018, the Paramount Network announced that Emily in Paris was ordered straight to series with ten half-hour episodes, with Darren Star attached as a writer and executive producer along with Tony Hernandez, and that production would begin in early 2019.[3]

On April 3rd, 2019, Lily Collins confirmed she would star in Emily in Paris.[2]

On August 12th, 2019, Lily Collins confirmed filming would begin the same day.[8]

On August 13th, 2019, it was announced that Ashley Park was cast as Mindy Chen in the series.[9]

On September 19th, 2019, the Paramount Network announced that Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Lucas Bravo, Samuel Arnold, Camille Razat, and Bruno Gouery were cast as series regulars, and that Kate Walsh, William Abadie, and Arnaud Viard were cast in recurring roles.[7]

On November 19th, 2019, it was confirmed that filming had wrapped the same day.[10]

On July 13th, 2020, Netflix announced that Emily in Paris would debut exclusively on Netflix in the fall.[1]
